September in The Year of Our Lord Jesus Christ 2017

Dear All

Goodness, I’ve been here in Uckfield a year already! Where has the time gone?

So many memorable things have happened, my licensings (two of them it turned out in the end!), Bonfire Services, Remembrance Services, Festival of Christmas Trees, Crib and Christmas Services, brilliant Messy Church events, dramatized Holy Week, Uckfield Festival, Sunday Funday and fabulous Pyramid Rock Holiday Club to name but a few. So many lovely committed people involved in so many ways! Hugely exciting!  On the 1st & 2nd of this month it will be my last new annual happening with the Uckfield Carnival fireworks and procession, which I’m looking forward to hugely.

And then it all starts again.

There are lots of things I’m hoping we can do in this coming year, but in all our activity and rushing, we must never lose sight of the basis of it all, our centredness on God, the still point which anchors us and our lives. As well as the bright and the bouncy, I am looking towards exploring quiet days, Taize Services, Prayer times and a deepening of the Healing Ministry, as well as working out how we can use our church and centre buildings in new ways to develop our community’s life, not least in the areas of the wonderful youth and children’s work we do – watch this space!

Thank you all for your welcome, love, support and encouragement. It’s feeling like home.

Love, Fr. John

P.S. On 7thSeptember we have a bus going to Fr. Mitch’s putting in as Vicar of Heathfield. It will be good to see him in his new place, and will be important for us support him in this new beginning!
