Christmas Tree Festival 2015

Festival of Christmas Trees - December 4th, 5th, 6th  2015

Incredibly six thousand four hundred people visited the Eighth Festival of Christmas Trees at Holy Cross Church. This Festival retains the traditional methods of tree decorating, but the Sponsors are encouraged to be creative and innovative, and this year they certainly did that with many actually hand crafting their decorations.

This year’s Festival photographs can be viewed in the website’s photo gallery.   The eighty-two trees displayed had been sponsored by a cross section of people, businesses, and associations from within the local community. There were representations from seven local Primary Schools, the Community College, Adult Education College, local businesses, voluntary organisations, community support groups, sport clubs, and individual families.

During Friday visitors were entertained during the evening  by Sean Martin playing the organ, and Bernard Tagliavini – singing and guitar playing. On Saturday morning Uckfield FM undertook an Outside Broadcast (within the Church) children were entertained by ‘Jimmy the Juggling Jester’.

During Saturday and Sunday afternoons there was live entertainment - Tim Bramly and Alan Lannaghan played the piano; Milly McCarron, and Beth Ellwood sang to their own accompaniment. Children could also undertake a Quiz and then go to the Belmont Centre and try their hand at decorating biscuits, and having their face painted.

Visitors were exceedingly well catered for throughout the Festival. In the Belmont Centre there was Morning Coffee and Mince Pies, followed by Lunches, and later in the day Afternoon Teas were available.  On the Friday and Saturday the town celebrated a Christmas Shopping weekend and the doors of the Church remained open until 9.00 pm on Friday and 8.00 pm on Saturday..  .
